103 exhaust screw fitted

Yesterday I got the new exhaust adaptor fitted. It was pretty straight forward and the screw fitting made it really easy to attach. Unfortunately the exhaust is still too loud so I will either go back to my old exhaust or buy something a bit more quiet.

Its been a while since my last post but I finally got hold of a screw in exhaust adapter. Hopefully this will solve my noisy and leaking exhaust problem.

Out and about on the 103!

Today was the first time ive got out for a proper ride on the 103 since doing all the modifications. Its was awesome! I did about ten miles and the peugeot didnt miss a beat. I got up to 39mph before it would get a bit boggy so I may need to lean the main jet slightly. Low end power is ridiculous due in part to the circuit pipe. I may be able to gear it for a higher top speed while still keeping the hill climbing ability. The Simonini exhaust is so loud it gave me a headache. I will look into repacking the silencer.

PHBG 21

I spotted this carb on ebay and I thought id get it as the next upgrade for the peugeot 103 which currently has a PHBG 17. When I have a minute I'll pull it apart and see what atomiser/bushing and jets it has.

More 103 tuning

Today I fitted the Domino throttle on the Peugeot which made a load of difference as the old one had a stiff mechanism. I also replaced the damaged cluch bell. My crankshaft seems to eat through these pretty quick. Finally I had a bit of a ride to try and get the carb tuned. After multiple stops and various adjustment I think im almost there. One more session should do it and then I'll book it in for MOT.

Evening ride

This evening we were invited to sinclairios for a BBQ. I thought it would be rude not to take the Tomos. Lovely evening for a ride.

New Sava 2.5 tyres

I ordered a set of 2.5 Sava tyres as both my mopeds already have 2.25 Sava tyres on the front. I fitted one on the tomos this afternoon so its now up and running again.

Testing and tuning

Today Sinclairio fitted his new Proma pipe and we took his Puch and my Peugeot down to an unused stretch of road to do some tuning and testing. It was a blast to ride the peds again and the Proma pipe performed better than his old pipe. I made some jetting changes but the peugeot still isnt running perfectly. Looking forward to our next ride.

Tyre bulge

After the last ride on the Tomos I noticed it bulge in the rear tyre. I suspected a dodgy innertube and bought a new one. But it turns out that the innertube was fine and the tyre was coming apart on the inside. Ive ordered a new tyre so it shouldn't be off to road for too long.

White walls

For my birthday I treated myself to a pair of white wall 17" sava tyres. So u whipped the wheels off as I wanted to spray the wheels white too. These wheels are off the Moby. This bike is on a very slow back burner. But these are one job ticked off a very long list.

First ride of the year + oil change

I managed to get out and do a nine mile circuit on the Tomos. It felt great to be out and about on the bike especially now that it has a disc brake and will actually stop. I got back and thought I'd better do an oil change as its been ages. It turned out to been not to bad.

PHBG idle jets

I picked up some more idle jets as I only have a 55 and the guide on moped army recomended between a 40 and 50. I got a 40,45,50. I also got a new needle retainer as the current one makes it really hard to adjust the needle height.

Peugeot carburettor tuning 2

Today I took the Peugeot out for a test ride and instantly noticed an improvement with a leaner jet (85). I had also dropped the needle one notch to the second leanest notch. It accelerated much better but still some room for improvement. The top speed has increases too I think but still having problems with my speedo so no figures yet. The one thing I did notice was if I let off the throttle it sort of felt like it was bogging and would take a second or so to kick in when I throttled up.
I did a plug chop and its looking pretty good.

Peugeot carburettor tuning

This evening I finally had some time to do a bit more tuning on the peugeot. I dropped the main jet 92 to a 88 and test rode it. It was much better than before but still a bit boggy. I swapped the main jet to a 85 so will test it again tomorrow.

Domino throttle assembly

The throttle on my Peugeot is a little stiff so I thought id try to find one of these fancy Domino hand throttles. Picked up this used one for next to nothing on the french ebay :-)

New adjustable engine stabilizer

The original engine stabilizer was doing the job pretty well but I did notice that under high revs the belt would flap about a bit. That would suggest to me that it needed to be tighter. In addition when I added the Doppler variator the left peddle crank would just hit the variator nut. So I decided to make a new stabilizer but as I didnt know how much longer it needed to be. I decided to make an adjustable one out of angle iron for added rigidity. I installed it on the second hole and now the peddle clears the variator 'just'.
So i will have to see how it performs.
