Tomos replacement wheel

Today the mag wheel I ordered to replace my broken wheel arrived from the states. This is what I've been waiting for to get my tomos back on the road.

Monday morning ride

Sinclairio and I both had the day off so we thought we would go for a ride this morning. He was on his Puch City and I took my Peugeot Vogue. We covered abouy 25 miles in total and visited both the south and north coasts. We stopped to pick up a pasty along the way and neither of as had any mechanical problems. I did find the peugeot was really lacking in low down power I think due to 17mm carb and pipe with a top end powerband. But all in all a great ride.

Peugeot Vogue foot pegs

As id had a problem with the pedals hitting the exhaust I thought id swap the pedals for pegs. The pegs I bought have a launch lever built in. Im still not 100% sure about getting rid of the pedals as I like the look and also without pedals I need to figure out how im going to start the bike.

Peugeot Vogue swing exhaust video

I just thought id share this video of the Peugeots new custom exhaust mount in action.

I took the pedal off on the exhaust side as it hits the pipe but since shooting this video ive found that i only need about a quater kick to start the bike so it doesnt matter that the pedals cant do a full rotation.

Tomos disc brake mount template

Just did a quick drawing of the mount I need to make for the tomos. Im going to cut up and use old mower blade as its a decent thickness so should be strong enough.

Tomos disc brake

The disc brake caliper arrived today for the tomos. Its the same one I used on the Peugeot. I offered up the wheel to the forks and measured out to where the edge of the disc will be when it arrives. Then I attached the caliper by one bolt so I could rotate it till it sat at the right distance and angle from the axle. Next i'll make a cardboard template to mount the caliper to the existing holes on the fork. Once ive got the template right I'll cut it out of 5mm steel plate then drill and tap the holes.

Sinclairio takes on the Motobecane project.

Today I dropped off the Motobecane at Sinclairios place. He has decided he wanted to take it on and im stretched pretty thin working on the Tomos and Peugeot. This way we both have two bikes. Glad its staying with Mopeds at Dawn.

Out on the Peugeot Vogue

This evening I rode the Peugeot to Sinclairios house and back. Its the first time that ive taken it any distance since fitting the PHBG carb and new exhaust. I have notice that the pipe has a top end powerband so lowdown acceleration is a little sluggish but it got me up to a respectable 40mph. Remember this is still with a stock 50cc cylinder. What I need to do is adjust the gearing for a little more low down torque or adjust the variator so it variates later.

Peugeot custom exhaust mount

Yesterday Sinclairio and I made an exhaust mount for my Vogue out of a rubber car exhaust mount. It needed to allow the exhaust swing back and forward as the engine variated and also absorb some of the vibration. Turned out really well and doesnt look to bad either.

Puch gearing complete

I Finally got around to gearing the Puch & the E50, slapped a 16 tooth so it's now 16x45. Still really responsive, does 30mph easy, cruising at quarter throttle. Does 40mph and manages the hills well. So that's it I'm happy with that not going to mess about with it now. 40mph was my goal and to get up the hills that we are surrounded by. Need to sort the jetting though as its still to rich.
